I want to help you decide on the type content you’re going to have in your Instagram Guide. The first type of Guide is Places. Here, you can recommend places in your city and beyond. This is perfect if you have a physical business — like a hotel or a “bricks and mortar” store. If you’re in the tourism, leisure or hospitality niche you can create a “buzz” about your location and encourage people to visit.
The next type of Guide is Products. As the name would suggest, in this type of Guide you can recommend your favorite products. These can be yours or other peoples’. As I mentioned in “What are Instagram Guides and why should you care?”, right now these are limited to products sold in the Instagram Shop.
The final type of Guide is Posts — and this type offers the greatest potential. Here you can recommend posts you (or other people) have created or saved. This material can come from an Instagram Post, IGTV video, Reel or from another Guide.
Not only does this type of Guide make it easy to curate other peoples’ content, make it available to your own followers and associate yourself with the top people in your niche, but it also makes it super simple for other people to curate YOUR content and spread your messages far and wide thereby enabling you to reach a much, much bigger audience.
Are you starting to see the possibilities here?
Stuck for Guide ideas?
I want to follow on and give you some more Instagram Guide ideas. Bear in mind that you don’t have to use just your own content, you can curate anything that has previously been published on Instagram.
A fantastic Guide idea is to put together a step by step tutorial for any subject. You can curate information from all over Instagram — and put together a Post or IGTV video of your own to fill any gaps. This approach will make you the goto guy or gal on the subject and increase your popularity and following dramatically. You can also create tutorials about using a product by tagging a product you follow.
You can take this one step further and create the ultimate guide to any new product that’s being released. Let’s face it, most instruction manuals for consumer products leave a lot to be desired, so many people search the Internet to figure out the thing REALLY works. You can turn this to your advantage.
You probably can’t do this right now, but when things get back to normal and travel restrictions get lifted, you can create a Places Guide as a travel diary with posts from your feed. These will show up on a map, making it easy for others to visit places you recommend.
In the meantime you can create a Places Guide by tagging places you’ve already visited and giving location details or other information already existing on Instagram.
Another great idea is to create fitness guides with posts or videos from your feed. This can be a great help to people trying to lose weight, or keep fit during lockdowns if they live in an area where gyms have been forced to close.
These are just a few ideas to get you started, but there are as many Guide ideas as there are on Instagram. The only limit is your own imagination.
